    The company

    Commerzbank is a leading international commercial bank with branches and offices in almost 50 countries. The world is changing, becoming digital, and so are we. We are leaving the traditional bank behind us, and we are choosing to move forward as a digital enterprise.

    As part of this strategy, Commerzbank continues the expansion of its Digital Technology Center in Sofia, Bulgaria. We need motivated people who will join us on this journey, and we are looking for a Backup & Restore Architect in our Data Center Base Infrastructure team.

    As a Backup & Restore Architect, you will design, implement, and continuously optimize our enterprise-wide backup and recovery environment, ensuring secure, reliable, and efficient protection of business-critical data.

    You will join an infrastructure team with a strong API-first mindset and a clear focus on end-to-end automation. Our target is to automate backup and recovery processes as much as possible, leveraging scripting and modern APIs. A key strategic initiative is the rollout of Rubrik in the cloud, integrating cloud-native capabilities into our backup and recovery landscape and supporting Commerzbank’s broader digital and cloud transformation.

    Your tasks:

    • Taking technical ownership of backup and recovery products, including technical documentation and governance.
    • Enhancing global standards and ensuring the backup and recovery architecture is aligned with the bank’s overall strategy.
    • Using deep expertise in data backup technologies, primarily Rubrik and Versity/ScoutAM, for long-term data retention.
    • Applying expertise in Bare Metal Restore (BMR), primarily Cristie in combination with Rubrik.
    • Gathering and analyzing requirements; providing consulting and technical support for backup and restoring solutions and coordinating their implementation.
    • Developing scripts using REST and GraphQL APIs to automate system processes.
    • Managing release and patch activities for backup solutions in production.
    • Identifying optimization opportunities in availability, performance, information flows, disaster recovery, and security to ensure stable, low‑disruption operations.
    • Evaluating and analyzing system environments for technical feasibility (PoC), cost-effectiveness, and efficiency, including TCO, business cases, and market benchmarking.
    • Communicating effectively with stakeholders at all levels, from internal customers to senior management.
    • Applying solid experience in the administration and monitoring of data backup solutions and ITIL-based ITSM processes.
    • Providing out-of-hours and on-call support in exceptional cases.

    Your Profile:

    • Strong expertise in enterprise data backup, especially Rubrik and Versity/ScoutAM; knowledge of Veritas NetBackup/Alta Data Protection, Veritas Alta View, and NetBackup IT Analytics is an advantage.
    • Very strong knowledge of agent-based backup concepts (e.g., Exchange, MS SQL, Oracle) and snapshot-based backup and restore.
    • Deep expertise in Bare Metal Restore (BMR), particularly Cristie.
    • Good programming skills in Ansible and Python.
    • Solid experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows operating systems.
    • Strong cooperation skills, resilience, and flexibility, particularly in agile environments.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within international teams.
    • High level of initiative in developing technical improvements and solving complex problems.
    • Ability to coordinate the resolution of complex disruptions in the backup and recovery environment.

    In return, we offer:

    • Good work-life balance, including 25 days annual paid leave (increasing with 1 day per year up to 31 in total), flexible working hours, work-from-home and work from abroad opportunities;
    • Luxury package of additional health and dental insurance;
    • Food vouchers in the amount of EUR 80 monthly;
    • 6 additional annual days off for exceptional circumstances;
    • Employee assistance program for psychological, financial, and legal consultations;
    • Multisport card;
    • Annual contribution of EUR 153.39 net per child for a summer camp/school/kindergarten for children up to age of 15;
    • Possibilities for building career-advancing skills by covering training/certification courses and conferences based on individual learning and development needs, access to an online learning platform;
    • Opportunities for long-term professional development in a stable, 150-year-old company while contributing to the vision of a new, just starting Digital Technology Center;
    • Friendly and supportive multicultural environment, open to new opinions and ideas.
