Junior ETRM Java Developer

Dataciders ROITI is looking for a Junior ETRM Java Developer to work directly with leading energy trading companies across Europe.

This is a hybrid role that combines software development with client-facing consulting. You’ll write and maintain Java code and SQL, and you’ll also work with clients to understand their business, define requirements and design solutions. Around 40–50% of your time will go to business analysis. The rest is development, configuration and support.

You’ll be based at our Sofia office, working side by side with our colleagues. The role requires more than 80% office presence, which makes it much easier to learn both the technology and the energy trading business.

Practical experience with Java and SQL is required for this role, and all shortlisted candidates will complete technical assessment.

Founded in 2013, Dataciders ROITI is a boutique consultancy specializing in energy trading and risk management (ETRM). We work with leading ETRM platforms for some of the biggest energy companies in Europe, across power, gas, oil, coal, freight, emissions and financial markets.

What you’ll do

Development

• Develop, debug and maintain Java code within ETRM systems
• Write and optimize SQL queries
• Take part in configuration, deployments and ongoing maintenance

Consulting

• Work with clients to analyze their processes, products and requirements
• Analyze existing system functionality and design solutions, either within the current software or by building new ones
• Provide technical support to clients and users and resolve issues promptly

Teamwork

• Work in an agile team alongside senior colleagues and help improve how we work

Must-have

• At least 1 year of hands-on Java experience (commercial work, internship, or substantial personal/university projects you can show us)
• Good grasp of core Java: OOP, collections, exceptions, generics, working with an IDE and debugger
• Ability to write SQL queries independently: JOINs, GROUP BY, subqueries, INSERT/UPDATE, and a basic understanding of indexes and table design
• Experience with Git
• Fluent written and spoken English
• Comfortable communicating with clients and explaining technical topics clearly
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proactive, eager to learn the business behind the code, and open to feedback

Nice-to-have

• Experience with Oracle or MS SQL Server
• Knowledge of the energy or finance sectors
