In this role, you will keep a smart meter data platform fast, stable, and ready for the future. On the Transition Smart Energy Platform (SXP) project for a German transmission system operator, you will take over an existing solution and modernize it step by step through 2027, so that large volumes of energy data are processed reliably every day.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain high-performance Java services that receive and process large volumes of smart meter data
Modernize the inherited platform step by step, improving performance, maintainability, and resilience
Collaborate closely with DevOps engineers, architects, and client stakeholders to plan changes and release them safely
Analyze and resolve third-level incidents and fix bugs to keep production services dependable
Build event-driven data flows with Kafka and Kafka Streams
Operate and troubleshoot services on Kubernetes, and monitor them with Grafana and Splunk
Maintain Azure DevOps pipelines for continuous integration and delivery
Contribute to Angular frontend work when the project requires it
Requirements
8+ years of experience in Java development and related technologies
8+ years of experience with Spring Boot or similar frameworks (Quarkus, Jakarta EE)
6+ years of experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Practical experience with Kafka and/or Kafka Streams
Recent hands-on project experience (within the last 3 years) in the technologies above
Analytical approach to incident analysis and problem-solving in production environments
Clear, proactive communication within a distributed team
Expert knowledge of Java and related technologies
Software design patterns, continuous integration, and security practices
Experience building solutions for large data volumes with relational and non-relational databases
Experience with OpenShift and/or Azure
Knowledge of power grids and energy markets
Fluent German and English (C1) to work with the client, run technical discussions, and write documentation in both languages
