Vince is the President and Founder of Alcatraz, a cutting-edge enterprise biometrics platform revolutionizing access control for large corporations and secure locations. By replacing outdated badging and biometric technologies, Alcatraz leverages AI-driven 3D sensing to provide seamless, autonomous authentication while preventing security threats like tailgating—enhancing security without adding friction.
Before founding Alcatraz, Vince played a pivotal role in developing next-generation technology at some of the world’s most influential companies. At NVIDIA, he worked on embedded multimedia systems that powered the Tesla Model S, BMW, and Audi. He later joined Apple, where he led the hardware prototype engineering team for iPad and iPhone during the development of FaceID. It was here that he recognized a critical gap in enterprise security—a need for a future-proof, intelligent access control system that extends the convenience of mobile authentication to the physical world.
This vision led to the creation of Alcatraz, often described as “FaceID for the enterprise.” The company has raised over $50 million in funding and is now deployed across numerous Fortune 100 companies globally, redefining how businesses secure their most critical assets.
Vassil Popovski is a seasoned technology leader with over 27 years of experience in various leadership roles within the tech industry. He is currently the VP of Engineering at Alcatraz AI, leading the engineering teams in Bulgaria and USA. Previously, he was the CTO at Design Technologies, VP of Product Development at Leanplum, and Senior Director at VMware. He co-founded Connecto.ai in 2017, serving as CEO until its acquisition by Leanplum in 2018. Vassil also supports the startup ecosystem as an angel investor and limited partner at Eleven Ventures, LAUNCHub, and BrigthCap Ventures.
