For a data scientist, dealing with real-world data often feels like conducting an orchestra with off-tune instruments, missing players and wrong notes, and having to deliver a beautiful symphony that pleases the public.
The talk will take you on a journey through a variety of data science roles, all sharing the same challenge: delivering useful models from imperfect data. The conductor is in turn a PhD student, an engineer in a small company, a freelancer and a leader in a large Enterprise. The symphony is about genetics, fake news and Brexit, Alice in Wonderland and medicines.

Associate director of data science

Laura is currently Associate director of data science at Teva Pharmaceuticals. Her career in data science and AI has taken her through various roles and industries. She did her PhD in machine learning applied to cancer genetics in Max Planck, Germany. Then she worked as an NLP engineer in Ontotext (now Graphwise), with focus on fake news detection and social media analysis. During a few years as a freelancer, she collaborated with the University of Southern California and a few startups. As a data science lead in Teva, she is leading Enterprise wide machine learning and AI projects, and a team of 10 talented data scientists.
