    Yara has an ambitious strategic agenda to be the crop nutrition company for the future, and is taking lead in the development towards sustainable agriculture and digital tools, to contribute to solving the challenges which the agricultural industry is facing globally. We have a worldwide presence with sales to ~150 countries and around 17 000 employees.

    The newly established function, Yara Farming Solutions, will lead the transformation towards more sustainable and efficient food production, by innovating our offering and the way we work. Crop and Digital Solutions is responsible for developing and scaling new “on-farm” digital and integrated tools and solutions, which will work toward driving a more efficient and transparent food system. We are looking for a Software Engineer to be part of our GeoSpatial Data Team.  The position is based in Berlin.

    About the Team

    GeoSpatial Data Team – we are the team that is responsible for working with any kind of geospatial data: satellite imagery, soil data, weather data, geometries/boundaries, tiles, and so on. We explore knowledge from data, perform data analytics, research, and expose valuable functionality as scalable services to build the next-gen AgTech digital solutions.

    Responsibilities

    You can/will:

    • Work on the forefront of using geospatial data (e.g. satellite imagery) for agriculture
    • Analyze and process satellite imagery and geospatial data
    • Build scalable Python serverless microservices running on AWS
    • Drive and optimize the implementation of geospatial services
    • Help, support and collaborate with other engineers in the team and other solutions
    • Work with Agronomists to improve our algorithms and services
    • Work within a product team with a product manager, designers, and other developers to create solutions and apps focused on our customers’ needs.
    • Participate in the full life cycle of a product, from early-stage rapid prototyping through to full release and continuous improvement after the initial launch.
    • Develop backend components of scalable apps and solutions

    Tech Stack / Environment:

    • Python 3+ (Flask, NumPy, Rasterio, Geojson, Shapely, Geopandas, Marshmallow, and so on)
    • Serverless . com framework (https://www.serverless.com/)
    • AWS: Lambda, API-Gateway, CloudWatch, RDS, S3 and so on
    • DataDog, CircleCI, Github
    • MongoDB

    Profile

    You have: 

    • Five or more years of relevant experience in the software engineering area.
    • Extensive experience with Python particularly with microservices running on AWS (other languages are welcome).
    • Experience with one or many Python libraries: NumPy, marshmallow, geojson, rasterio, shapely is plus
    • Experience in working with geospatial data, remote sensor/satellite data or any other complex data is plus
    • Experience with SQL and NoSql Database (GeoSpatial Database is plus)
    • Experience with AWS, Docker and/or Kubernetes, Serverless (Lambda) framework
    • Extensive practical knowledge of unit and integration tests
    • 3 years or more experience with modern, large scale software projects: source code control with Git, APIs, cloud platforms, test-driven development, continuous integration, documentation
    • Understanding concepts, such as service-oriented architecture, microservices, message queues, machine learning,  data processing and analytics
    • Experience working in a cross-functional team
    • Full English proficiency (written and spoken skills)
