    About the role:

    Pensoft is looking for a motivated and energetic DevOps Engineer to join our IT team in Sofia, Bulgaria. The role involves working on Pensoft’s innovative signature scholarly publishing platform ARPHA, journal, and project websites and applications. The employee will be reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer.

    Responsibilities:

    • Design, implement, and maintain scalable, resilient infrastructure across self-hosted and cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) using Terraform for infrastructure-as-code (IaC).
    • Ensure platform reliability, performance, and high availability by enforcing operational best practices, SLOs, and proactive capacity planning.
    • Build, optimize, and manage containerized applications using Docker, orchestrated on Kubernetes clusters (including managed services like EKS/ECS), with deployments streamlined via Helm charts.
    • Implement comprehensive observability solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK stack for monitoring, logging, alerting, and root-cause analysis.
    • Diagnose and resolve complex production issues in high-availability, distributed systems with minimal downtime and rapid incident response.
    • Partner with R&D teams to design, build, and continuously improve secure, efficient CI/CD pipelines integrated with GitOps workflows (e.g., FluxCD).
    • Collaborate closely with developers to enhance service reliability, troubleshoot incidents, and optimize container images, Helm configurations, and resource utilization.
    • Provision and maintain consistent, version-controlled development, testing, staging, and production environments using Terraform, Helm, and Kubernetes manifests.

    Requirements:

    • 2-5 years of hands-on experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or Systems Administration supporting large-scale production systems.
    • Deep knowledge of IT infrastructure—including Linux/Unix systems, networking, storage, and cloud architecture.
    • Strong proficiency in infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, and configuration management best practices.
    • Extensive experience with containerization (Docker), Kubernetes (including cluster lifecycle management), and packaging/deployment tooling such as Helm.
    • Proficiency in automation and scripting using Shell, Python, or similar languages.
    • Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), CI/CD, and GitOps principles.
    • Experience managing and tuning relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
    • Demonstrated expertise with CI/CD and GitOps toolchains (Git, GitLab CI, FluxCD).
    • Advanced experience with observability stacks—monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
    • Familiarity with messaging systems such as RabbitMQ and Apache Kafka.

    We offer:

    • Attractive salary;
    • Friendly and dynamic working environment;
    • Possibilities for professional and personal growth;
    • Standard working hours;
    • Hybrid workplace.
