    The Opportunity

    We are seeking an exceptional, passionate and motivated software engineering manager, to lead our Data Platform team. This critical role will lead engineers in building and supporting the backbone for our critical data. You will work in partnership with product, architecture, data science, and other pivotal teams to build and support innovative solutions that affect the whole company.

    You will bring your past leadership experience to develop and coach teams through ambiguity and help teams do the best work of their lives. In addition, engineering manager would work closely with business and IT functions to deliver data projects in timely and cost-effective manner.

    • Manage a data engineering team with strong technical and operational capabilities.
    • Provide technical leadership across multiple teams, by understanding key technologies deeply enough to help guide product and technology strategy.
    • Scale our platform, best practices, and streamlining processes to meet data growth.
    • Maintain high standards for software and system quality by establishing good practices and habits and automated checks.
    • Establish processes – system management, code management, data quality – to help the team operate efficiently.
    • Collaborate with engineers, product owners, and architects to plan, design, develop and test our services and platform.
    • Help the team analyze and resolve technical or solution related issues.
    • Manage to SLA metrics for production systems, including availability, security, and performance.
    • Research and evaluate software products that might fit the needs of the team better (eg. if emerging technologies can improve on performance or scaling etc)
    • Understand data technologies and how they are evolving; translate business needs into platform requirements.
    • Develop, build, test, and operate customer-facing products that meet availability, performance, quality, and security service level agreements.
    • Working cross-functionally with various Intuit teams: Product Management, Experience Design, different product lines, or business units to drive forward results
    • Drive balance in the long and short term, between Customer adoption and accumulation of Technical Debt.
    • Manage development of provisioning data pipes for reporting and data science
    • Map the base data elements which needs to be transformed and provisioned
    • Work with business to get understanding of their data requirements
    • Help Business improve process and help business to make data driven decisions
    • Empower the business – create value through the increased adoption of data; understand the data science and business intelligence landscape to guide the adoption of the right tools and processes.
    • Take ownership in growing members of the data science team to be successful in building and deploying algorithms that solve important business problems.
    • Guide direct reports in designing technical solutions to integrate new models and systems into our data science technical environment.
    • Lead design sessions and ensure your team delivers high-quality work that aligns with engineering strategy.
    • Collaborate with business stakeholders across the company to plan and execute valuable data science projects.


    • BS/MS in computer science or equivalent work experience.
    • 4+ years of experience as an established leader of software engineering teams that have successfully delivered and operated highly available software products that meet or exceed performance, quality, and security SLAs.
    • Passion for being at the leading edge of technology with a minimum of 8-12 years of hands-on software development experience.
    • Proven track record of recruiting, coaching, and managing early career and experienced technologists.
    • Expert understanding of building and operating highly available products using AWS, Microsoft Azure, GCP, Data Science and cloud-native technologies and services.
    • Experience in Data Science tools and frameworks and Machine learning principles is a plus.
    • Demonstrated ability to orchestrate and drive fast problem resolution of production issues to protect the customer experience.
    • Demonstrated ability to explain complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Be adept at articulating the product vision and drive the future roadmap with strong business acumen
    • Ability to collaborate across a wide range of roles and experience levels in a global setup. Strong communication skills
    • Strong demonstrated understanding of data lifecycle required around data ingestion (ingest data from disparate systems into cloud computing environment), data contextualization (merging large data sets, developing algorithms to merge and clean data); data insights and analytics is required.
    • Familiarity with different types of databases and business applications of distributed computing (e.g. MapReduce, HIVE, HADOOP).
    • Proven ability to understand massive disparate data sets and transform the information into clear insights for the business.
    • Knowledge of ERP systems
    • Experience in one or BI software tools like Tableau, Qlik, Power BI, etc.
    • Strong communication and influencing skills.
    • Familiarity with large datasets and understanding of data analysis workflows is required.
    • Familiarity with data science methodologies (i.e. scikit-learn, keras) and supporting data science teams with automation and tooling.
    • Strong presentation, verbal and written communication skills
    • Comfortable rolling up your sleeves and working in a Notebook or cranking out SQL queries to troubleshoot
    • Experience as the ‘expert’ on a development team where you were responsible for everything from project planning to delivering key features.
    • Experience managing and growing direct reports in a technical environment, ideally in the data science space.
    • Expertise in a programming language like Python 3, GO
    • Understanding of quantitative methods, notably writing code to navigate machine learning and data analysis.
    • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-experts.
    • An intuitive sense of how quantitative work aligns with business priorities.
    • Near-fluent English speaking and writing skills
    • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly-growing environment and collaborate actively and effectively with multidisciplinary teams
    • Motivated, dynamic, highly analytical, and detail-oriented with strong decision-making and prioritization skills
    • Appreciation for interfaces and contracts in large organisations with many small teams
    • Understanding of the complexity that arises from poorly managed dependencies
    • Experience with cloud cost management and oversight
