Information Security Engineer

So, if you come from a background as:

– System Administrator;

– Network Administrator;

– Infrastructure Engineer;

– IT Support Engineer;

– DevOps Engineer;

– Information Security Engineer.

…and you have all-rounder experience with information systems and technologies, for example:

– Cloud infrastructure: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, Cloudflare, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI);

– Server and desktop operating systems: Windows, Linux (Debian, Red Hat, Ubuntu, Centos), MacOS;

– Virtualization: Hyper-V, VMWare, KVM, Proxmox;

– Containers: Kubernetes, Docker;

– Networks: routers, switches, LAN, VPN, DNS, OSI model;

– Databases: MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MongoDB;

– Web: Apache, Nginx, IIS;

– Cryptography: AES, RSA, TLS, SHA, HMAC;

– Security Systems: Firewalls, Anti-Malware, IDS/IPS, FIM, SIEM.

…and you have strong interests in the field of Information Security, Payment Security Compliance, Cybersecurity, or Security Auditing, and maybe you’re in possession of any Information Security certificates (CISSP, CISA, CISM, ISO27K LA/LI, etc.).

…and finally, if you want to move your career forward and:

– Enter the world of Fintech and card payments;

– Understand how card payments work, what happens in the background when, for example:

• You tap your card to the POS terminal;
• You add your card to a mobile wallet;
• You enter your card details into the e-commerce shop, and so on;

– Learn about common card payment fraud and, of course, fraud prevention techniques;

– Learn why it is important to follow very strict security rules when securing those card operations;

– Learn in detail the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), which defines those security rules;

– Ultimately become a Payment Card Industry Qualified Security Assessor (PCI QSA) and audit the security of all those systems that process the card payments, then…

As an Information Security Engineer you will work on projects with clients from all over the world, so you should be:

– Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking) and a good communicator;

– Detail-oriented – security auditing does require some level of pedantry;

– A capable analyst – you have to interlink areas of technology, security, business, and project management in a meaningful way;

– Highly organized, with good time and task management skills;

– Flexible, adaptive, and open to new challenges.
